Guys,

I must have done a poor job of describing the mess. The rubber melted,
like VCR's with old belts that turn to tar. I tried Windex on the mess
left on the shield. WD-40, being petroleum based, may have worked, but
the MEK softened up the larger "globs" so I could peel them off with a
dental tool. The long streaks where the globs ran had to be removed by
vigorous cleaning (with MEK).

The main point of the post is that I made the ASSUMPTION that the set had
only one problem (the CRT arcing causing shutdown) and that the lines
were related to the work we did. We even changed out the splitter,
thinking the arcing had damaged the splitter. It's always AFTER a battle
like this that the customer says "Oh, yes, those lines have been there
for months before it died."
