Friends,

I haven't posted this as a problem before, because I couldn't identify
the problem well enough to ask for help. After many, many hours of work
and two failed attempts to return the light box to the customer, the set
is finally fixed and I hope this will help others in the future.

The set came in with the complaint of instant shutdown. The green CRT
was arcing at the second anode. There appeared to be a contaminant
spilled in the area. Cleaning and RTV appeared to repair the set.

Took lightbox back to customer. Found light horizontal lines, almost
like retrace on all three CRT's. Had not seen in shop. Also, appeared
to have a slight sync problem. For example, bring up convergence
crosshatch, vertical lines had slight "s" shape in middle.

After many hours of troubleshooting and failed attempts, tried PIP pix.
PIP image was totally out of sync, like is typical of Mitsubishi. Pulled
the PIP module. It had three rubber bumpers to isolate the pcb from the
shield. These bumpers had melted like Hershey's Kisses. What a mess!
Also found seven bad caps. For the record: C424, C425, C426, C501 (all
15ufd, 50V), C318/.47@50, C518/10@50, and C121/25@100. Most of these
caps check good with a normal cap meter, but high ESR.

Set works fine now.
