There is no mode switch in a CCS135-138. The gears are "self timing" (ya, right!). When front load is initiated by the switch at the front of the unit, the load motor runs for a prescribed number of revolutions. At that time the cassette should be loaded. As to your original question, front load is initiated by the swich near the front. John.
