I would not recommend tasting as a test for coolant leakage. Ethylene glycol is toxic and can cause heart and kidney problems. In the very small amounts you are exposing yourself to it may not be a problem, but why introduce toxins unnecessarily. We are exposed to enough already. IIRC the federal guideline for the limit for drinking water is 7000 micrograms per liter. It is broken down in the environment in a few days by common bacteria, but who knows what happens in the body. Thirdly, did you check the yoke plugs for cracks?? Or is the picture still visible when it gets too dark? I'd lean more towards coolant leakage problems, but if it's too bright to begin with I think I'd do a white balance/sub bright adjustment 1st, and try to get the bar to get it on the floor for a better coolant leakage checkout. Now there is a way to check for coolant leaks if it's dry....Wet you finger and rub it on the holes located on the down side of the CRT's bell box....the one that surrounds the crt bell. Coolant normally leaks out of those holes and if it's dry and you wet your finger etc....you can sometimes pick up dry coolant. Then if you taste your finger......you should taste a sweetness. That would indicate coolant has been there. But the reality I've experienced with this model is....the only way to verify it is to let the PTV run a couple hours, then visually inspect it, then try the taste test at that time...
