When Q601 and Q602 blow, these caps (c09, c10, c11, c12) are recommended
to be replaced. These caps are part of the timing which keeps the square
wave between the two transistors symetrical. If one of the caps is off
in value, it can mess up the waveform, causing accessive current draw in
Q601 and /or Q602. Perhaps the Sony OEM replacement caps have all been
sorted to get very close tolerance in value but to buy generic caps is a
risk so I want to take all possible precautions. The Sony OEM caps are
$7.00 CDN each from our supplier here in Ontario, so if I can get 20
caps at 10 cents USD each from a US supplier and hand sort them myself,
I hope to be successful going that route. This is just an example, I'd
use the meter to check many other caps too. It's only $45.00 USD, not
like I have to spend hundreds on it.
