[TechAssist] Mastech capacitor checker model 390-735

I just received this brand new Mastech capacitor checker model 390-735
from Parts Express and the thing doesn't work. The display comes on ok
but it doesn't measure any capacitors, it just stays at 000. The leads
check ok. I removed the 2 screws from the rear bottom of the unit to
remove the back cover but I can't get the cover off. It is stuck at the
top somehow and I'm afraid of busting the plastic if I force it too
much. I'm thinking the top is likely held by catches, so if anyone else
has one of these meters and can advise me how to remove the back cover,
maybe I'll find a bad connection or some simple reason why this thing is
measuring. I hate to ship it back across the border and all. It will
cost me almost as much as a new meter in shipping charges to get it
back.
