Why would the COOLER one cause problems?

I agree with using generics in this case also. Bought a bunch of SK
2SC4834
and have not had any returns as of yet. But I'm also carefull to monitor
the
heat sinks for at least 30 minutes. If both run at the same
temperature(very
warm or cool) odds are they will last. BUT if one is running hotter or
cooler than the other,then they will blow. Scope the COOLER one, your
problem will usually be there.
