It is OK to use generics as long as you use the higher rank transistors. I
have begun using only the P rank version. The are all made by Shindingen,
the difference is the gain rank. Sony specifies M,N or P or any of those,
depending on the set. The P works in all of them. The best price on them
is Acme right now.
I buy them in batches and match them for gain and junction bias, but it
makes less difference than the overal gain rank and troubleshooting the
circuit THOROUGHLY!
