Ummm, I'm extremely happy with the N96 and given a little more time I think it's going to be a great piece of kit. I think talks sounds absolutely fine on it compared to the 7610 I've had, but can't comment on how it sounds on other models. I find the keypad no problem at all and with a little more time, I'm sure the functions like the BBC's i player will be available in the UK on the handset. I've got the program, but it seems like it's only available via wi fi. Only thing that bugs me is the battery life. Does anyone know what impact talks has on a handset?, as it really drains quick and I'm not sure if this is due to talks or what, cheers Steve.

Hi Paul,

Do you know what version of Office is on there? Is it an old version by
chance? I don't have an N96 to try this with, but that is good news.

I must admit, I am a little disappointed with the N96, it has a hell of a
spec, but Talks is laggy on it, compared to other phones like the N82 and
the 6220 classic. It also sounds kind of tinny and disembodied, and quiet.

This is not important to everyone, but with all the hype around the N96, it
is a bit of a let down. I am glad it reads office for you though. What
about Word files?

All the best

Steve

Hi Everyone.

I don't know whether anyone is aware of what I am about to describe so here
goes:

I have just purchased the Nokia N96.

I have the latest version of Talks and was using it previously on the N95.

I had quick office on the old phone, as I do on the new phone.

Talks did not work with quick office on the old phone but, so far as I have
tried up to now, to my great surprise, Talks was reading an excel sheet on
my new phone!

Not perfectly, I grant you but, I could read the information in each cell
(in this case, it was a rota).

Sometimes, the information in the cell was not spoken but, I cursered up or
down one cell and back to the cell I wanted to read and that worked.

We spoke of things impressive with Talks so far, but, that is one fantastic
leap in my opinion.

I have no idea why it should work but, it does!

Just hope it will with the new release of Talks!

Hi to everyone

I would also like to echo these centiments from Jackie. I don't know what I
would do without talks on my phone. I find it really opens up the phone for
me although my only regret is that I don't always feel I make the most of
all the features as often as I probably should, but when I do, it's fab.

All the best

I think Talks is the best thing since ... Well I don't know really,
but it's really enhanced and brightened up my life. I get so many
texts from people, and can share these by forwarding to others. And
the serious side of the phone enables me to use the calendar,
contacts, music player, WiFi and Bluetooth, making quick notes ...
It's a fabulous tool to have, thanks to the initial £150 that then
lets you upgrade for £50. Got to be the best money you could spend!!
Talks is well supported too by people like Steve and this list, which
helps make it enjoyable.

Hi Jackie

Thanks for that.

I thought it was something along those lines.

I don't plan to keep the N95 which has Talks and Zooms Premium on it
so, it will be a good addition for the next person who gets it if they
need it when it goes to their good home.

I agree with you that it is very reasonable.

I can remember talking to people about how good it would be if we
could have speech output on a phone to tell us battery and network
signal and now look where we are?

Thanks again.

Yes you can as far as I know, the very worthwhile £50 gives you Talks
Premium.

Thanks for that.

Could I just pay for an upgrade on the old phone if I wanted to? As you
would if there were a new version of talks for which you wanted to upgrade
for a new phone?

Thanks.

Hi Everyone

Can anyone confirm that I do get to keep Talks and Zooms on my old phone
now
that I have paid for a licence to change from one handset to the other?

So, effectively, have Talks and zooms on both phones?

I think I do but, just wanted to make sure.

Thanks.
