I haven't done the firmware update yet, will try it this week or let Mr Nut
have a look for me.

Hi Paul thanks. I think you said you got a firmware update for the N96, so
I'm sure that will make it a reliable handset. I really liked it, but
didn't like the problems it gave me...a bit of a contridiction I know, but I
mean I liked it's look and function, just didn't succeed with its
performance, cheers Steve..

Glad you got it sorted.

I would do the same if I had the same problems you were having.

I will bare the Nokia N85 in mind just in case.

So far, so good though with my N96.

Hi Paul, well unfortunately I've had to take my second N96 back to the shop,
as the battery kept draining (I mean from 7 bars to 1 in 3 hours with no
excessive use!) and the fact it crashed and just had a line across the
screen. My first handset got a loose slider in 4 days, so I was not willing
to continue with it. I liked the phone, but had to draw a line under the
problems I was having.

I changed it for the N85, which is a beautiful, solid and stirdy handset
with all the features of the N96 + a couple more features...1 being the FM
transmit feature. This enables you to transmit what you have on the phone
to an FM radio! Talks works well on it, so I'm very, very happy now. Just
hope I don't encounter anymore problems! Cheers Steve.

I think the N96 is like the N95 was in the early days.

They both had issues where they would crash out on you.

I remember updating the firmware on the N95 and the difference was amazing.
It was like having a new phone.

I think I said this before so, sorry if I am just repeating myself!
repeating myself! repeating myself! repeating myself!

Hi Steve. Well I'm having big problems with it at the moment. It's going
back today, as the battery went from 7 bars to 1 bar in 2 hours...and I
didn't do anything apart from recieve 4 messages. This morning I also went
to use it, but nothing happened...my wife said it just had a line across the
screen. All I could do was to take out the battery and it came to life
again. I must say I'm very disappointed, as I do like the phone, there's
obviously something going on under the hood or I'm just unlucky, either way
I'm gonna change, cheers Steve.

Hi Steve,

I have no problem with the keypad, it's just the whole darned phone feels
like a fisher-price toy to me. All plastic and no solidity. I give it six
months before the slider comes loose.

All the best

Steve

The keypad is fine, horses for courses and all that...I personally can't why

there would be a problem unless you are very fumbly at pressing buttons. I
can text better on this then my previous phone! Cheers Steve.

Hi Paul that is a surprise. However how are you managing with that flat
keypad. I have to say that I am put off by the keypad. I have the Nokia N95
8GB and think it's the best phone out there on my Three network. They do
have the N96 but I won't be going for that phone. It's nice that it has 16
GB of storage space plus an option to add more storage.

Hi Everyone.

I don't know whether anyone is aware of what I am about to describe so here
goes:

I have just purchased the Nokia N96.

I have the latest version of Talks and was using it previously on the N95.

I had quick office on the old phone, as I do on the new phone.

Talks did not work with quick office on the old phone but, so far as I have
tried up to now, to my great surprise, Talks was reading an excel sheet on
my new phone!

Not perfectly, I grant you but, I could read the information in each cell
(in this case, it was a rota).

Sometimes, the information in the cell was not spoken but, I cursered up or
down one cell and back to the cell I wanted to read and that worked.

We spoke of things impressive with Talks so far, but, that is one fantastic
leap in my opinion.

I have no idea why it should work but, it does!

Just hope it will with the new release of Talks!

Hi to everyone

I would also like to echo these centiments from Jackie. I don't know what I
would do without talks on my phone. I find it really opens up the phone for
me although my only regret is that I don't always feel I make the most of
all the features as often as I probably should, but when I do, it's fab.

All the best
