Hi Pete.

Your the man *smile*. I've decided to keep the N97. Firstly, I can't be
bothered with the hassle of sending it back, secondly its a three branded
handset so if I run in to any trouble, they'll help me out of it, as an aside,
all the software like Email on Three, Skype, Windows Live Messenger all of
which I get free will work, I have Vlingo on my phone which I love by the way
and which you should seriously check out, the battery talk and standby time
stink on the N97 mini though the keyboard is a little nicer on the mini but
nothing to get over excited about.

All the best, Ibrahim.

  Hi Ibrahim

Sorry for delayed reaction to your message, had to go to the Cinema and watch
a very long film (Avatar), still at least I didn’t have to wear those silly
3D glasses like everyone else!!

The two N97 models (Classic & Mini) both have quite strong points for each,
which one you choose will certainly depend on your intended uses, for example
the N97 Classic has the DPad navigator and in my opinion a very well spaced
keyboard whilst the N97 Mini has no DPad and has the arrow keys on the right
hand side. The N97 Classic has way larger storage capacity whilst the Mini does
not however the Mini does have more C: storage so you can store more on the
phone memory such as App's rather than on the built in flash 8gb drive or a
memory card. The Classic has way more battery power and also a FM Transmitter,
the Mini has less battery and no transmitter (which is a great function BTW)

So like I say, very different markets really. I'd say the Classic is more for
the geek and the Mini more for the people who don’t need all that memory &
power etc.

Check out reviews of both where they are compared on the allaboutsymbian.com
site as they compare where each has their different best points

I have had the N97 since about October and have seen it go from firmware 10
to 12 to 20 and each time the bugs get less and less, firmware 20 (which I
currently have) is pretty bug free, firmware 21 (also called 2.1) is out on
unbranded models and hopefully out to the rest very shortly and this sorts out
a couple of other issues. The Mini also went from 10 to 11 (also called 1.0 and
1.1 I believe) which also sorted some of it's issues.

Either way you choose they are both great phones, I'm extremely happy with
mine. But do weight up the spec's as each version is really aimed at different
user types.

Oh and one last thing, don't put mobile speak on it <smile> as we are all
Talks fans, right? It'll be worth the wait for Talks support, trust me!

Ok, off to bed now, any questions on the N97 feel free to email me and I'll
answer what I can tomorrow, oh ok just noticed the time, I mean later today
haha!

  Cheers

  Pete

Thanks a lot.  As soon as I connect the phone to my computer I'll be sure
to download the latest firmware update.  As for services, I was specifically
thinking of email on three, Skype on three and their windows live messenger
client.  I might well send this phone back anyway, after taking one look at
the N97 mini, I was impressed to put it mildly.

Hi Ibrahim. The firmware versions are different for both phones. Last
month both phones had a update released. I updated my N97 Mini firmware from
10.2 to 11.045 and it may well be that the N97 phone update will be available
for you to download over the air. I can't be certain what version it's up to
but I did hear it was 2.1 but don't quote me on that. A quick google should
answer that query. My phone is sim free and I've tried a Three pre-pay card
in this phone and it doesn't seem that there are any issues with the services.
I've tried the web and that works well. Â

      Hi Saqib.
      Â
Thanks a lot.  I don't think your on three anymore, but Three don't do
the N97 mini, I've just checked so I'm reluctant to use a phone that isn't
three certified as it might not work with all the three services.  Do you
think considering both phones run the same software and operate on the same
platform that the bugs in the N97 will be fixed and stability improved?  I
know its a tall question and perhaps you might not be able to answer it, but
before I unpack and use this phone, I want to be sure I'm not jumping in to a
heap of issues and crashes.

Hi Ibrahim the N97 Mini has a set of arrow keys at the bottom right of
the keypad. I'm trying to get use to the keypad at the moment. This keypad
doesn't have the four way navogational keypad like the N97. The screen is
slightly smaller but it's a better phone when it comes to stability and it
doesn't suffer from multiple crashes like the original N97. It has one physical
key on the top and that is the menu key and there are two virtual onscreen
keys next to the menu and they are call and end. Both are coloured with the
call being green and end being orange. They are just below the actual screen
display when the phone keypad is shut. It also has a camera key which works out
to be the command key for MS4 and the power button is at the top of the phone
next to the headphone socket. Â

        Hi Saqib.
        Â
I know you have an N97 mini.  How do you find the keyboard?  I was in
a Nokia service centre this afternoon and took a brief look at the N97 mini.
I really liked the phone, but one of the things the N97 has is the joystick in
the form of arrow keys to the left of the main keyboard.  Does the N97 mini
have these keys as well?
