I am not after convincing anybody.  Just install it and say no to
associating files, and it won't take over anything.

OK, while everyone is going on about Itunes, I gather that the earlier 
versions sort of "took over" the computer, and everything played that way 
etc.

Please tell me enough about it to consivince me it's now worth having and 
using???
