Ok, In doing way too many calculations and readings on the Item spell and the
size of coins. Coins are generally the size of quarters. If the troops take the
time, the copper coins can be dealt with with a single item spell. Are you
planning to stay overnight or go back now? I have heard both thoughts. I have
not heard of anyone scanning for magic either. However, I have learned about
buying donkeys and mules for my mining operations.

Sadly (for the DM) nothing bothers you during this time, but Sean
swears he hears steam venting through the earth. Holly might agree with him but
is less sure.
