dear all, today I went to the county director of education at the advice of a friend to get a letter from him confirming my disability. as I sat waiting for him, several questions raced through my mind and which I would like us to ponder through with a view to coming up with a common position: firstly, do we really have to renew these tax exemption certificates after a given period now that most of our disabilities are permanent and are not bound to change. one might argue and say that it is formality. fine, I agree but are these records not with our employers, the council and even KRA. why the repetition. secondly, it interests me that there does not seem to be existing a common position or direction regarding exactly how to go about the renewal if we have to do it. four different people, even from the very council itself will have different stories about how to renew your certificate. is it not funny that such an important piece of information is not accessible even at the council website. surely, something should be done. i feel so frustrated with this whole process considering that travelling to Nairobi from upcountry is becoming a nightmare. i wish that we discuss this matter and possibly advise both the council and the revenue authority on the best way of making this process less straining to those with disability whom it ought to be relieving. thank you all.
