Danny Wilson (Sinatra) and partner Mike (Nicol) make a meager living singing
in dives and hustling pool. One night they meet entertainer Joy Carroll
(Winters),
who gets them a job at racketeer Nick Driscoll's (Burr) posh nightclub. But
Nick wants a high price: half of Danny's future income. Danny's career
skyrockets, but his
position at the top of the heap, and his one-sided romance with Joy, prove
extremely unstable.

Hollywood.
The San Francisco opening was the followingday. Frank sang on stage with the
Ray Hacket
Orch. in Frisco. Variety shows a disappointing b.o. in L.A. S.F. did much
better at $14,000 thanks
to Frank's personal appearance on opening day.

At the end, Joey introduces Jackie Bright president of AGVA (American Guild
of Variety Artists <http://www.agvausa.com/> ) who presents Frank with the
AGVA award for Outstanding Singer in America for 1959.

Joey also interrupts Frank during his acceptance speech to tell him the
acceptance of the Award will be televised on ABC on Wednesday and they have
to switch to a different microphone so it will be picked up.

This concert was originally listed as November 1, 1959 but Ed O'Brien, was
able to determine this show was the third on February 7. 1960 and the AGVA
was aired on February 10th with Ed Sullivan as host.

Ed O'Brien notes:

Frank opened on the 7th( Thursday), was there the next night, then
he played a benefit at the Fontainbleau, Miami Beach, on Saturday ( St
Jude's
Hospital) and then resumed the Sunrise engagement on Sunday and Monday.
Opening night at the Sunrise it appeared that he had closed the show with
"Mack The Knife," but the response was so great,  he came back out and
sang "Strangers In The Night" and "My Way."

This engagement featured a fascinating arrangement
by Joe Parnello on the Arlen/Mercer classic "One For My Baby."
Song was sung with a quintet and no piano intro. The sidemen
making up the little group were Don Baldini on bass, Irv Cottler
on drums, Joe Parnello on piano and guitartist Tony Mottola.
Marvelous blues sound really augmented the Sinatra vocal
treatment.
