You have flags for single notes which are not part of a group.  You have
beams to group notes together so that the sighted user can see the rhythmic
patterns as he's playing.  Remember that sighted users can physically  play
and read brand new material at the same time.  They don't have to digest or
work out anything if they're any good.

Thanks. It sort of helps. but i'm not sure why you would want to group the
notes? I mean, if you have 2 8th notes, you know that makes one beat so why
group it when you can already work it out? And if they have flags, why do
you need the beams as well?
