Expression text will appear above the stave if the vocal stave option is
checked in the edit instrument dialog.

.Select a bar anywhere on the stave.
.From the menus choose house style > edit instruments.
.In the dialog that opens, press the edit instrument button.
.If another dialog pops up asking you if you want to edit the instrument,
press yes.
.In the next dialog that opens, find the vocal stave option and press space
to check it.
.OK the dialog.
.You'll be taken back to the first edit instrument dialog. Press the close
button.

The expression text should now appear above the stave.
