Where can I get more info regarding that footswitch you referred too? I have a Tek 11800 w/SD-24 head and was wondering if the footswitch could = be used for that? Take into consideration that the Tek 11800 & SD-24 head = are obsolete products and parts are starting to get harder/more expensive to get! The TDS8000 is a nice window based unit.=20 Rich -----Original Message----- From: si-list-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:si-list-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] = On Behalf Of Loyer, Jeff Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2003 1:09 PM To: ray.haynes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx; SI List Subject: [SI-LIST] Re: TDR Recommendations At the risk of being considered a renegade for addressing a technical = =3D issue in this forum... ;-) I've used the 1st three that you list - they should be perfectly =3D = adequate for what you describe. As far as I know, the 4th is just a =3D nicer front-end. =3D20 One major challenge will be how to probe your signals, especially since = =3D you want to probe differentially (2 signal and 2 ground contacts =3D simultaneously). It's possible to position your probes manually for =3D = this, but is pretty demanding. And, if you want to perform differential =3D = TDT (4 signal, 4 ground, simultaneously), I would say it's virtually =3D = impossible. Using a probing station (and associated probes) is nicer, =3D but = expensive. And you'll have to spend energy carefully designing your =3D launch = structures to match your probes. =3D20 If you're going the manual route, I'd point out that TEK just introduced = =3D a cheap (<$100, and please don't call me names for saying that) =3D = footswitch for the TDS8000 - IMHO one of the first great innovations of =3D the = 21st century, for TDR'ers. And, semi-rigid coax works very well for =3D a = probe. I had Microstock make some for me: (Microstock, Inc. =3D SKRHSO32400-2, = 50ohm Probe (.085")). We have just competed a design that uses 2Gb/s proprietary communication channels to interconnect boards. I will be = getting the artwork on the first board back soon and I'm going to need to do = some SI work on it. These frequencies are a magnitude higher than anything I = have worked with before. We were very conservative on the layout but I'm = going to want to verify the artwork with a TDR scope. I'm thinking 20GHz bandwidth for the scope and a pulse rise time should probably be better than 50ps. The signals are differential so I need = that capability in the TDR Head. Does this sound about right? If my assumptions are correct then are these likely candidates?
