Anand,

My suggestion would be to try simulating an SSTL-2 bus with multiple 
DIMMs with and without the motherboard series resistors.  It will be 
difficult for anyone to convince you of their need without some sort of 
supporting data.  Ultimately, the bus works with the resistors and does 
not work without them.  They serve to de-Q resonances which cause 
ringing and close the data eye pattern.
