[SI-LIST] Resistance of Earth

I need to find information on determining the resistance of earth between
two points located several miles apart. I have found a lot of information
on determining the resistance of ground rods to earth, but not on determining
what earth itself may look like. Is there anyone out there that can point
me at
information on what this may look like, taking into account the pertinent
factors
such as soil type, moisture content, etc.?
