If the bit stream can transition or signal in such a fashion that you have alternating 1's and 0's, then the resulting frequency you get is equal to half of the bit rate (e.g. 2.5Gbps translates to 1.25GHz max signaling rate if it meets the condition just stated). -Scott G.
