There is no easy rule of thumb, it depends on how the data is encoded for transmission. For the most common pulse modulation schemes (on-off), RZ (return to zero), and NRZ (not return to zero) the clock rate is the same as the data rate. In NRZ the highest frequency component in the data is 1/2 the clock or bit rate. In RZ it is equal to the bit rate. More complex schemes usually involve linear modulation, i.e. multi-level, or multi-phase encoding. ---Bob Lewandowski Stratos Lightwave -----Original Message----- From: joe nguyen [mailto:jooonguyen@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, June 20, 2002 1:27 PM To: si-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [SI-LIST] Ghz/Gbs convert Dear Si Expert, Just a silly question. How would you convert Ghz to Gbs? What is the rule=20 of thumb? Thank you in advance, JOe _________________________________________________________________ Join the world's largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail.=20 http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from si-list: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field or to administer your membership from a web page, go to: //www.freelists.org/webpage/si-list For help: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'help' in the Subject field List archives are viewable at: =20 //www.freelists.org/archives/si-list or at our remote archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/si-list/messages=20 Old (prior to June 6, 2001) list archives are viewable at: http://www.qsl.net/wb6tpu =20 ------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from si-list: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field or to administer your membership from a web page, go to: //www.freelists.org/webpage/si-list For help: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'help' in the Subject field List archives are viewable at: //www.freelists.org/archives/si-list or at our remote archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/si-list/messages Old (prior to June 6, 2001) list archives are viewable at: http://www.qsl.net/wb6tpu
