Way back in the dark ages there was a company that was offering = prototype and small lot "PCBs" that consisted of glued down wires on a circuit = board. And before that there was this technology called wire wrap which usually never had a reference plane. And I can imagine someone trying to fix a circuit board problem with a yellow wire and needs to analyze the fix.
