Hi Virendra, Yes, OR (Agilent hat ?on?) you can upgrade your analyzer to a 4-port PNA, which allows this flexibility with software resident on the analyzer :-) NOTE: I agree with Steve Weir?s comments that the dissimilar probes are not an ideal situation, and can limit the bandwidth of the calibration. You may want to look for a cal substrate that can accommodate both probe pitches. Example, if you?re using Ground-Signal style, the CS-11 can be used for SOLT cal from 150u to 1250u?. -- Gary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- Attend the <http://www.gigatest.com/Training/CourseEventList.jsp> GTL Signal Integrity University in Sunnyvale, CA - May 18 - May 26 GTL 122 - Fundamental Principles of Signal Integrity GTL 250 - High Speed Board Design GigaTest Labs 134 South Wolfe Road * Sunnyvale, CA * 94086 408.524.2700 www.gigatest.com <http://www.gigatest.com/> -----Original Message----- From: Virendra [mailto:adsurevv@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, April 17, 2006 10:48 AM To: garyo@xxxxxxxxxxxx; si-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; istvan.novak@xxxxxxx Subject: RE: [SI-LIST] 4-Port VNA calibration question Gary, we are using PLTS and it seems from you email that i need to use the BMS, correct? thanks again, Virendra Gary Otonari <garyo@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Hi Virendra, What are you using to control the VNA? If it's an 87xx, it must be either the Balanced Measurement System (BMS) or Physical Layer Test System (PLTS). Some 4-port VNAs can use either of these software packages. They are quite different in terms of calibration requirements and flexibility, and you need to check which version. Our understanding is that PLTS (the more recent software) will not allow dissimilar calibration kits to be used on individual ports in a calibration. So you will be better off using BMS if you can. Otherwise, we would recommend using the same probe pitch and cal substrate, with corresponding cal kit, on each port, if possible.... -- Gary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- Attend the GTL Signal Integrity University in Sunnyvale, CA - May 18 - May 26 GTL 122 - Fundamental Principles of Signal Integrity GTL 250 - High Speed Board Design GigaTest Labs 134 South Wolfe Road * Sunnyvale, CA * 94086 408.524.2700 www.gigatest.com -----Original Message----- From: si-list-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:si-list-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Virendra Sent: Monday, April 17, 2006 10:02 AM To: si-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; istvan.novak@xxxxxxx Subject: [SI-LIST] 4-Port VNA calibration question Hi All, I have a question about calibrating a VNA for 4-port measurements. We are using standard pico probes and Agilent 87xxX VNA. The problems we are having is that one pair of probes now have different pitch than the other pair and it is not possible to use the same calibration substrate for both the pairs. Does anyone know a way to calibrate this kind of setup with two different calibration substrates? thanks in advance, Virendra --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo!
