Lately, I have seen so many dogs with weak temperaments,
shy, sharp, dog aggressive, etc., plus dogs that are dying young from
health
issues, dogs that look like bitches, weak ears, curly tails, etc.

Lord for the life of me I don't know where some of you are going to dog
shows. On the contrary, I have seen all of the above in a much less degree
than
in years past. Breeder are to be congratulated on getting rid of much of
what is written above.

I just judged a large Specialty in California, and none of the above was
present. NONE!

I am glad Randy said this. I read with some interest the post saying how
terrible temperament was.
I just don't see it. Of course I seldom travel outside my area, (over 10
hours on the road), but I can think of a lot more to worry about than
temperament. I find it unusual to see bad temperament, and even when I travel
to
judge, I see so much less of it than I used to.

I was, a few years back, amazed to hear people on the List saying how much
trouble we had with pigment. Then Jack Newton reminded me that out on the West
Coast we were breeding to Magellan, Ben and The Boss. Of course we had no
pigment problems, but back East, they did.

Often these are regional problems, and so when we read the List, we shake
often our heads.

If we have improved anything in the last 20 years, it has to be temperament.
So seldom do we hear, "Oh, he was mistreated as a puppy" or some other
excuse. We have a problem here and there, but it is rare. We work hard to
breed a
better dog, and from what I have seen, every year the breed improves.

I remember some white marked dogs back in the 60s, but find it rare today.
Maybe I am too isolated here in California, but on the other hand, it is 85
outside today, and sunny. It makes those dark dogs shine.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.
