I don't think they were closely related. Perhaps line-bred on Horand?? As I recall, the Collies had no white on their chests until Lassie. Then they started to accept it. I don't know if they changed their standard, but now if a Collie is marked with a white chest, no one seem to mind. Color is the least of the things I would judge on, if the color is rich. I do prefer that it not come out of a bottle, but then again, I am very fussy about that stuff, losing my own personal hair color. I don't seem to find that light gray hair makes me any less able to do my job. Of course, at times it helps with these new young judges, who think gray hair means I know something. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
