No, they must be entered in the BOB class to get GCH points. If the judge
awards
the points incorrectly, AKC with rectify it.

Paula is correct, but when they started the Grand Championship program I
talked to the AKC.
The question I posed is, "If a dog has earned all the points for
championship, and it has not yet been recognized as such by the AKC, and you
show in
the class to make sure of the championship, and win the Grand Champion
points, will they be awarded?"
The answer was "yes" because you can enter a dog in the classes up to the
time the championship is recognized by the AKC. In that case the Winner's
Dog or the Winner's Bitch would get the Grand Champion points.
The program produced some interesting results, not the least of which was a
great deal of confusion for the judges.
