Subject: educating all breed judges (and the public)
The Judges' list is currently having a hot discussion about ringside
mentoring...the AKC, in its infinite wisdom, didn't word the description
of who qualifies as a mentor properly............
In any case, you don't have to be a judge to be a mentor...you
should have been breeding and exhibiting for a minimum of 12 years, and
hopefully, this 12-year rule will apply to judges, too...but that means
that some terrible people who have been judging Shepherds would be
qualified to mentor. One big restriction is that the mentor can NOT be
exhibiting on the day.
Guys, this is the time to step up to the plate...volunteer your
services as a mentor.......if you are going to be at a specialty or
somewhere there's a major entry, and you are not the owner or co-owner
of one of the dogs entered, if you've bred or shown for 12 years, you
can help someone from outside the breed learn and understand the German
Shepherd Dog..........the PC has an approved list of mentors, but you
don't have to be on it to do it.......you just have to be knowledgeable
about structure and movement and type, and what is wanted in the
ring...........and why........and you have to be able to pass this
knowledge on...........
let the Education Chairperson know you are available and where........
I'm against badges for mentors and mentorees, but perhaps within a
breed, there could be some pin or badge a would-be mentor could wear to
shows...then these people could find you........hopefully, more than one
of you..............

GS PERSPECTIVE. 'THE EDUCATION OF FOOLS IS FOLLY.' (DON'T RECALL THE
AUTHOR), BUT HE OR SHE WAS SO RIGHT...
THERE ARE VERY FEW REAL DYED IN THE WOOL 'DOG MEN AND WOMEN'... THEY
BREATHE RARE AIR..
THE REST ARE JUST THE 'WOULD-BE'S' MANY QUITE TENACIOUS IN THEIR QUEST TO
BE 'A JUDGE'. OR AUTHORITY..(.PALE IMITATIONS OF THE REAL THING!!! ). WHETHER
THEY QUALIFY OR NOT...
THOSE WHO ARE OPEN TO PROMOTING THE LATEST STARS, AS ADVERTISED AND
PROMOTED AND THOSE FEW , WHO HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN DOWN IN THE TRENCHES, BREEDING
AND
CARING FOR THESE BREEDS OF THEIR INTEREST AND BEING TOTALLY CONSUMED AND
DEDICATED, HEART, MIND, BODY AND SOUL, AND POCKET BOOK, INVOLVED WITH THEIR OWN
DOGS PERSONAL WELFARE AND ANY VALUABLE CONTRIBUTION THEY COULD GIVE TO THEIR
BREED AND THE FUTURE WELFARE OF THAT PARTICULAR BREED...
YOU CANNOT NOW NOR WILL YOU EVER MAKE A " BREED VALUABLE JUDGE", OUT OF
SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW AND EAT AND SLEEP, THEIR PARTICULAR BREED, KNOWING
IT, ALL PHASES OF IT, TEMPERAMENT AND CHARACTER AND CONFORMATION FORWARD AND
BACKWARD AND ALL POINTS IN BETWEEN...
THAT TAKES SO MANY YEARS OF TOTAL AND UNCOMPROMISING DEDICATION, IT WOULD
BE AN IMPOSSIBILTY FOR MOST TO ACCOMPLISH. SO, WE ARE LEFT WITH THE
"DABBLERS.".. THOSE WHO 'DABBLE' IN THESE DIFFERENT BREEDS... NEVER REALLY
KNOWING WHAT
MAKES THEM TICK!!! NEVER REALLY KNOWING, EXCEPT FROM A BOOK, (WHICH MAY OR
MAY NOT BE AUTHORATIVE,)
WHAT THE BREED TRULY IS, FROM CONCEPT AND DESIGN TO THE PRESENT...........
FROM THE HEART OUT.!!!!!!!!....
WHAT MAKES THEM GO AND TICK!!!
WHAT ARE THE GENETIC HEALTH PROBLEMS??? AND ON AND ON AND ON...
WE, THE GS BREEDERS, HAVE A LOT OF SHOWS AND WE HAVE A HELL OF A LOT OF '
JUDGE DABBLERS,' SO DON'T TAKE ALL THESE ADVERTISED SHOW WINS TOO
SERIOUSLY...MOST OF THESE JUDGES, ARE MERELY THE POINTINGS OF THE FINGER, OF
THESE
'DABBLERS.'...
WE HAVE VERY FEW LEFT OF THE 'OLD GUARD' WHO KNOW THIS GS BREED FROM THE
HEART AND SOUL OUT...
WE DO NEED EDUCATION OF THOSE COMING IN TO JUDGE, WHO ARE THE 'DABBLERS'
AND THEY NEED TO BE EDUCATED!!!..IF THAT IS POSSIBLE, WHICH I MUST TELL YOU, I
SERIOUSLY, DOUBT.....
IN SUCH A COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT TO DEFINE BREED, THIS GERMAN SHEHERD
DOG....UNIQUE AND ALL ALONE...IN IT'S INTENSITY AND IT''S QUALITY AND ABILITY
AND
UNTAPPED RESOURCES AND CAPABILITIES, IT'S UNDEFINABILITY TO THOSE WHO ARE NOT
TRULY DEDICATED TO THIS BREED, TO EVER REALLY COMPREHEND OR APPRECIATE OR
DEFINE THIS ONE IN A MILLION , ABSOLUTELY MOST COMPLEX BREED OF ALL..
HOW DO YOU TEACH THAT ???? IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE IT!!!!
YOU MUST TOTALLY IMMERSE YOURSELF IN IT..
AND EVEN THEN, YOU ARE ALWAYS LEFT WITH SOME FAR-OUT QUESTIONS.
