Carolyn makes some good points... European "high" or "show" lines dogs are also criticized for their more extreme toplines and "crippling" rear angulation. Here's a link to an article that shows how stacking can radically change the appearance of a dog. The article was written by someone who's first language is not English, but it is still highly readable.) If someone can't link to the article, I'll send it to you. It's very interesting. http://www.schlossbuldern.de/article-english.html Paulette McGuirt, GSDCA Member Wellborn-Allemande German Shepherds Qui Me Amat, Amat et Canem Meam ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carolyn Martello" <marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <Stormy435@xxxxxxx>; <DKARLOFF@xxxxxxx> Cc: <nancy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <showgsd-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, May 17, 2009 1:20 AM Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: setting up dogs HMMMmmmmmm ......... it never ceases to amaze me that the German line forum continues to berate the topline on the American Bred German Shepherd Dog when you consider some of the toplines that are on their big winners. <G> Don't mean to start a war here because I didn't check with Evan on the timing......but I'll take a high wither without the hump and propped up front any day. <G> I'm told their handlers are to blame for that look too......but I don't think you could force that on a good back. I'm sure they are just like the Am. Bred and some are "over the top"....and some are not. We just don't waste time publicy berating extremes. Might be interesting to try to pose some other Breeds with short hocks and long angulated stifles with similar angles like an Afghan the same as our GSD to see if their hock lies on the ground posed the same. I think the difference is in the long sloping croup........ What Dania is saying is exactly what you will read. They won't see the stacking, they will just "read" the picture. Of course, some of the comments are off the wall, but the hock on the ground and the ski-slope topline, the exaggerated length are wysiwyg. I even "meet" some of the people from THIS list on those lists... and that's interesting, too.
