First one point that need to be made. There have been more dogs killed by
manufactured dog foods in the past year than by meat diets in many years.
One bad incident with a meat diet doesn't make all meat diets bad. Safe f=
ood
practices must be used. Cleaning all supplies such as bowls with hot soap=
y
water and bleach are a must. We feed over 100 dogs meat diet every day. S=
led
dogs can not survive on regular dry food diets that are sold in most stor=
es.
They have come out with special diets for sled dogs that are very expensi=
ve
that may work for some but we have found none that have worked better tha=
n
the meat diet. We have raised all our pups on meat diets and we do add a
vitamin mineral mix. We add powdered egg, fish oil, veg. Oil, coconut oil
and dry dog food for a carbohydrate base. Dicalcium phosphate to balance =
the
beef's calcium/phosphorous level.=0D

Check out www.Sleddogcentral.com for adds where you can buy raw meat fo=

dogs. We use Medford Fur Foods they have chicken backs and necks ground =
for
=2E10 cents a pound. Antigo Rendering has lean beef for .25 cents a pound=

They have a beef and beef fat blend for .17 cents a pound. Medford also h=
as
a organ meat mix and a kitchen mix. Red Granite also has beef and tripe.
These places are in Wisconsin however there are Rendering plant and Mink
Farms all over that sell meat. Ask your local Zoo where they purchase mee=

Well, while I like stay quiet, so as not to get into trouble <G> I do=

have to say ---- a number of years ago some idiot/s killed a deer back up=

our mountain. When the dogs and I went up for our walks, the dogs would=0D
Disappear on the way back. I finally tracked them to what they were goi=

after. This poor deer that the idiots had killed - had his the=0D
head/antlers off and they left the rest there. My dogs found it and ye=

did indeed go for the stomach first - then the legs, and all the meaty=0D
muscle stuff, etc. etc.=0D

I would truly love to feed raw, but we just can't get the required=0D
ingredients here. They charge a fortune for everything. We used to h=

a poultry processing plant just a couple of minutes from us, but it was=0D
going to be around $2.00 a pound for chicken backs and necks. Good lord,=

at that time we were buying chicken legs at the supermarket for around 8=

cents a pound. Unless you can find a really good supplier, it is really=

hard to do raw feeding.=0D

While we do feed kibble, I stay away from the canned stuff. I prefer =

buy whatever the meat market has to offer that we can afford, and add tha=
