You make some good points.
I work for the human medical system and most specifically a hospital. 2
years ago an "edict" was dispatched by our federal medical board.
Antibiotics are to be used sparingly. We (humans) have gotten to the point
where we are using antibiotics at the drop of a hat. We are now running into
"super bugs". Antibiotic resistant micro-organisms. The fear is that
bacteria will/have mutated to become resistant to antibiotics. We as
breeders of small animals have to be careful of using antibiotics as a
preventative or $$$$ saver. We should only be using them when "nothing else
works" or when it is indicated. Indicated means that "during a culture and
sensitivity a certain antibiotic has shown to kill the harmful organisms".
We should only be using it to aid in life-threatening situations. If we are
not careful, we may very well create a monster. Maybe not in our life time
but definitely in the not so far future.
