Hi All,
Once again I see Mega is making the rounds, as someone who spend a
few years dealing with it, here are the results of my experience
....................................
Not all mega dogs/pups are the same, some vomit, loose weight
.................................. but some are the biggest and fattest in your
litter, no symptoms nothing to suggest a problem ............... until a Barium
x-ray shows the defect.

Over the years I put the majority of my affected ones down but the couple that
were placed as pets (on a spay contract) with my vet and the new owner aware
of the condition have done well, the difference in a lot of cases is where
the "defect" is, high up seems to be a bigger problem than lower down.

Is it genetic? I don't know but I do know affected dogs will produce it more,
some anamals produce it more than others in the same litter, same line
............................. my guess is that mega is passed very much like
bad hips, affected dogs can produce clear but your chances are better using
clear stock.

Are the parents of your puppy clear? Were they barium x-rayed? If not than the
answer is I don't know.

Looking at your beautiful dogs laying at your feet right now, playing in the
kennel etc ...................... are any of them affected with mega?
Without a barium x-ray you don't know.

Remember not all mega affected dogs have symptoms.

We all must "pick our fights", things we check for and things we don't, all my
dogs are given vet check ups, pups are barium x-rayed, my breeding stock is
also x-rayed for hips and elbows, but I don't do a lot of the other
testing/screening unless a problem shows up.

Most will remember me from my "Mega" fight years ago in Terrace B.C.
............................ I have lived in Edmonton Alberta for the last few
years.

Good luck with your pup.

Take care,
Lonna
