....in case I missed something here, I would like to ask....
in the event my dog is tested and proves to be carrier for a marker such as
DM, is it written in stone that my dog will in fact thru out its life, only
carry the marker but the disease will NEVER actually surface and inflict my
dog?
because the thought crossed my mind that by me taking the chance and
breeding my marker carrying dog or bitch to one not carrying the marker, may
not be
stopping the disease in its tracks if my dog actually comes down with the
disease down the road....and the offspring inherrit the 50% of the dna marker
plus now have a sire or dam with the disease....what have I prevented?
Some diseases do not actally surface till later in a dogs life.So my
question I guess is...does the dna markers look different thru testing, in
dogs who
will actually have the disease some time in its life to a dog that just
carries the marker and the disease never surfaces? Judy
