You misunderstand me. From the dog's point of view, having been in charge for the past year or so, he felt justified in what he did. Was it good, of course not. But it was lack of control on the owner's part that got her killed. Do your dog growl at you? Or your family members? or guests even? I think not! But this dog did, at several people. He was warning them that they were violating HIS law. And he was the alpha in the pack, so it was HIS LAW. This is bad. I "train" for a living. I teach people to take pack leadership and keep it. Both indirectly and directly, depending on the dog and the people. I have told people they have a dog they are not able to control and that the dog is dangerous as a result of the previous experiences the dog has had, like sleeping on the bed all the time and eating dinner before the family, and other things. I also counsel people on what to do next if they have a dog they cannot control. They pay me and do whatever they want. I cannot force them to do the right thing. I have a client now, who has a Filo Brazilo. He is a first time dog owner, with THAT!!!! I worry constantly. But his daughter-in-law is a good friend and client who lives across the street and is helping with the dog. I still worry. This is not even in the city with ideal, never mind close to. What happened in Coral Springs came from allowing the dog to dictate events and not getting training for the dog with the dog when it was small enough to really handle. The results are that at least the dog did not kill any child, in or out of the family, and did not result in anyone going to jail on top of someone dying. sheila Santanagsd1954@xxxxxx wrote: In a message dated 8/19/2006 10:45:00 PM Pacific Standard Time, Showgsd- ------------------------------ Msg: #9 in digest From: Falkrigia@xxxxxxx Date: Sun, 20 Aug 2006 01:43:00 EDT Subject: Re: update on killer dog in coral spring fl In a message dated 8/19/2006 11:40:25 AM Eastern Standard Time, sheilaofmiami@xxxxxxxxx writes: >The untrained dog took reasonable offense at the women coming into his >territory and took what he believed to be appropiate action. How can you possibly consider this reasonable offense? I've owned, trained and exhibited dogs for over 30 years in everything from conformation to schutzhund and never would I consider a dog attacking its owner for anything short of physical abuse to be 'reasonable offense'. lynda Check out our websites for constantly updated info and pictures www.falkrigiashepherds.com www.thecraftywoodchuck.com Sheila: I really agree with Lynda on this subject. Especially with the Medium to Giant Breeds that are big enough to really do serious to fatal damage ... In my Personal opinion..."There is not now, nor has there ever been any valid excuse, for "a Dog to Bite the Kind Hand that Feeds it !!!!!!! The only solution is a one-way trip to the Vet. asap!!!!!!!!!! Because I consider such a dog insane and beyond redemption. If the Dog is being painfully abused physically, by an insane owner, then they have an excuse..In that case the Insane Owner needs a One-Way trip !!!
