Since I recently have encouraged building majors at all breed shows, I will
answer this.
Even with the good weather we are having this year (so far), I just cannot
drive or fly across the country or down to Florida for shows. All we have
within a 6-8 hour drive of the midwest/great lakes area are all breeds -
usually from after the National until March....with the exception of the
Chicago Triangle in Feb. So, that's 5 months of the year.....makes sense to
me to try to build majors if we can. I personally don't just build to build.
I only do that if the all breed judges are good.
I can tell you that we certainly DO build up entries for Specialty weekends all
spring and summer around here too. Nowadays you have to for some weekends. We
wouldn't have had majors at the Central Ohio Specialty last fall without
encouraging entries and calling/emailing everyone we knew to get them to enter.
So, I think it's just the time of year for building majors at all breeds,
because that's all we have to hope for...for a while.
