As much as it pains me to say it, I totally concur with
Carolyn. But I also feel for that dog's owner who, for all
we know, might be a nice, novice pet person who adopted a
pound puppy in good faith, and either didn't know what
they were doing or what they had (or both).

I am currently going through a similar situation to what
Dave posted about with his girl, Fritz. In my case, hubby
and I had to make that decision for our darling and
beloved 8.5 year old English setter, Blue Moon. This just
happened in mid-January of this year, so the (literal and
figurative) wounds are still very fresh and raw. I
*thought* the worst part would be the actual decision and
follow-thru ... until they informed us that, because the
dog had bitten a human and we didn't want to wait the
10-day period, we would be required by the state to do the
rabies test, even though there was less than zero
possibility of our dog being rabid. The thought of my
beautiful friend being cut up like that has been almost
too much to bear. I start crying sometimes (like right
now) and can't stop. I don't sleep at night. I can't even
bear to look at his pictures. I know we made the right
decision because there are too many truly nice dogs out
there needing homes, and when your own dog bites you
without provocation, that dog has broken the sacred "code"
and become a liability. But let me tell you something...
Knowing you're doing the right thing does NOTHING to help
ease the grief and guilt I feel (and I know my hubby
feels, but he keeps everything inside). I keep asking
myself the same question, over and over and over -- the
question that, because we were unable to do a necropsy,
can never have an answer: WHY??? :(

Sign me broken hearted...
