Yes Theresa and that's before we had DNA and a more exact explanation of
color genetics. White in GSDs in not a true white gene, it is a masking
gene.

No, that's not true Theresa. As
Barb says the white gene is noit a fading
gene.
What we call a "white" actually has some cream/buff.
You can have too light/fading/silver (yuck!) and not have
any white at all
in a pedigree. Best way to tell if a puppy will fade (aside
from the
obvious lack of pigment)? Look at the tip of
their tails. Anything other than
black and that puppy will fade a LOT as an adult. Not
pleasing to me,
that's for sure. Tip I learned in the Willis book.
