Hi Lee,

I agree with Jeff...I have done a lot of traveling and work to find the
cheapest fares. I think often times when someone else is paying for a
flight, people don't spend the time to try and find cheap fares or buy far
enough
in advance. My son learned this lesson the hard way for Spring Break this
year. He didn't firm up plans until it was too late to get a cheap fare.
Sometimes waiting pays off, but you have to know when to do wait and when to
buy. After doing a bit of research, I'll decide the "most" I'm willing to
spend and go off that number.

Many times board members will buy tickets at the last minute. Perhaps if
they're given a "budget" that will change. I also liked the idea of having
one travel agent book the fares. Is there a GSDCA member who is a travel
agent and would work to help the club??

Sometimes you have to be willing to compare the cost of traveling on
another day, or to a different airport, or have multiple stops. When I would
fly to/from South Korea, I looked for flights that were $1200 or less.
Several times I got them for under $1000. But I know a lot of people that
"swore" that they couldn't find flights for under $2000...and many were paying
$2500+.

Just spending literally 2-3 minutes, I found fares as low as $375 from New
Orleans to the Orange County AREA in the beginning of June (combination
United & US Air). If you want to fly in to Orange County airport, I found a
fare on United for $465 (that includes all taxes, fees, etc.). I didn't
spend the time that I usually do researching fares, but just looked for a
minute out of curiosity. If you look further, I'm sure you could find even
cheaper fares. Try Priceline if you're not married to a certain time of
travel. Also look at the travel page on AOL. Look on Travelocity. Google
search "cheap airfare", and look for more flights. Be flexible :-).

Good luck!

Jeff,
For over a month now I have been checking New Orleans to Orange County
since I am planing a visit there beginning of June. I have yet to come up
with
an airfare for less than $600.00. Please tell me where you are booking
your
flights because I will be more than happy to try them. BTW I am paying for

this out of my pocket not anyone else's money so I would very much
welcome
any savings. I use to get very good airfare to Orange County on SW but
they are 600.00 bucks right now for that trip.
