[ SHOWGSD-L ] a very, very sad day in Ontario...

The Ontario, Canada, pit bull ban, aka Bill 132, went into effect
today. Thousands of dogs will be put to death -- this is a result of
ignorance and fear, and a great success for the ARistas.
There were candlelight vigils held last night in Toronto, Ottawa,
and Halifax. At this time I do not know how well attended these vigils
were; hopefully, many people showed up to express their dismay at this
legislation.
I know not all of you really care what happens to pit bulls and pit
types. Just remember...this is about all dogs, not just pits.
This is about responsible ownership. It's about punishing the deed, not
the breed. It starts with pit bulls...who knows what breed will be next?
The Government, not just in Ontario, Canada, but in California and
everywhere, needs to know that at the end of every leash, there is an
owner...and these owners, for the most part, can, will, and do vote.
Legislators need to be reminded of that...and that BSL will not improve
public safety. Only generic dangerous dog laws and more education will
do that.
Remember the Holocaust poem, which Paul so nicely adapted to fit the
dog world...if we let it happen to the pit bulls (and it has happened in
Canada) it might be ANY breed next time.
Many dogs will have to die because of these laws...many of those
dogs are just wonderful. Not all pit bulls and pit bull types are
vicious. It is so sad.........
