What about those dogs who are shown with fixed ears, tails, bites, enhanced
color etc? (SNIP) Rules may be rules but, good grief, don't we have some
moral
obligation to the breed? A dog who has or has had a major health issue
like
B/T should, IMHO, not be promoted, bred or stood at stud so why would they
continue to be shown?
Just curious,
Diane

Good post and an interesting question Diane, and I do not propose to have an
answer. There are probably as many answers as there are people in the breed.

But just an observation - it may be part of the competitive nature of the
human race. Why do football players, bicyclists, and athletes in general use
performance enhancing drugs, rather than compete as they are? Why do
students use answers from other peoples papers? Why do women paint their
face to be more attractive than (oops, maybe I should not go there)? Why do
politicians misstate facts, applicants puff their resume, advertisers create
misleading images, and lawyers, well, we know the answer to that!

Having served as a police office and later as a pastor, I have become a
cynic of human nature. Deception is part of the game. We do it to win. In
our breed, there are so many who I trust, because their commitment is to the
betterment of the breed not to the ribbon at the show, or the sale of the
litter. They recognize that the winning of one dog with a fault or a problem
is not going to further the breed or their program, but for the rest, it is
not all that deep and philosophical. It is to win, to be accepted as a
winner and to receive the accolades at the show.

The solution is - well, there is no solution! The human race is what it is
and that has to be acceptable for now! See... Once we get over our
disillusionment and settle into well aged cynicism, we can enjoy life and
people, even those who do what we would not do. I do have two great dogs in
the yard who could easily beat most in the ring today. Maybe I shall rethink
my decision to not show them.
