The only certain thing is that the OFFA will increase revenue. Just like hips
and elbows. The numbers have improved because we know what to send in. Until
all results are published we really don't know any more than we did before. We
do feel better about it.

Well...I get the "science" of it, cringe when I think of breeding a dog
deliberately to prove or disprove anything. I (very distantly) know a vet
(another breed) that was trying to figure the inheritance of ME and
deliberately bred a few litters...I can't imagine.
Then again, you'd have to believe the current DM test is foolproof...which
I don't. (Have already posted the disclaimer I have on my web page even
though dogs tested clear). And even if you DID believe the test, not all
"at risk" dogs (in fact, relatively few to the entire population), come down
w/ DM, so it's not as simple as coat/not a coat as posted below.
I can't imagine me ever using an outside dog when I didn't trust the
owners to tell me the truth. Now, saying that, I know plenty of owners who
don't ASK when contemplating a breeding (other than "he has a dark eye" sort
of
comment).

PROVE that the dog does or does not have DM....yes that is harsh....but
no harsher than when years ago when big time breeders used to do
specific breedings to prove one thing or another and then either cull
the litter or destroy the entire litter depending on what the results
were...That is a "scientific" (I use the term looseIy) method to prove
the
point...I am not saying you should or shouldn't use this method...I am
just explaining why one would do it....
