I was never lucky enough to meet her but met two dogs of her breeding at
obedience trials up here in Northern Ontario in 2004. Fell in love with
both of them and then started researching the Wynthea kennel and was ?turned?
on to everything ?Winifred Strickland?.
She definitely was a mold breaker in every way and without even realizing it
advanced the feminist cause by training all these ?hard to handle? breed of
dogs in a time when women were supposed to stay home in the kitchen barefoot
and pregnant.
I too have her books and use them often. Most of the advice is still
pertinent today in training.
She was an icon of the breed to me and it seems that we?re losing these
icons faster and faster these days.
My sympathies to her family and friends.

This is a lady that literally has been around since the Red Sea parted for
GSD's.
Have not seen her for many years but Wynthea dogs were always in
attendance at shows in Canada back in the 70's and 80's and their breeder
always
there and in great competitive form.
A fount of knowledge......she will be missed.
