About three years ago, I bought my old, retirement house in Hemet, CA, built in 1964. I love the retro-ness of it and have maintained the original cabinets, tile counters and bathroom walls, and everything else possible. Even when the old galvanized plumbing blew last winter, just before Westminster, my workmen were able to save the bathroom wall tiles and reset it ALL as good as new! Before I moved in, I tore out all of the carpeting and all of the linoleum and vinyl tile down to the original concrete slab throughout the house. David Fritsche (a fellow Lister) sent me instructions for my contractor. Being earthquake country, there were quite a few cracks to fill, then he sanded and smoothed out all the floors as well as possible. He painted it with silver-grey epoxy. I love it. I use very few throw rugs. Harley has the couch, and a couple of doggy beds around the house. This is not the best climate for GSD coat, and he spends a lot of time during the summer stretched out on the floor.......nice and cool as a cucumber!! If I decide in the future to put in tile, laminate, or wood, my floors are pretty much prepped for anything! But, I LOVE the concrete, just as it is!! I did have the damnest fight with my homeowners insurance company, though!! They don't have a "category" for concrete floors, so kept setting my premium higher to replace carpeting and/or tile. Finally, this year, I got them to reduce my premium!!
