As a member of the GSDCA AND the Atlanta Obedience Club I have an obligation to
express my opinion to BOTH clubs who, in turn and after polling all their
respective members should DIRECT their DELEGATEÂ on issues of importance to US,
their respective memberships. The AKC is not some organization sitting on a
hilltop demanding that we all bow and scrape UNLESS we allow it.  It is a
club of clubs [and 'clubs' are the membership!!!!!]Â
AKC is funded through registrations and dog shows. Shows are run by mostly
volunteer MEMBERS of those clubs. We register the pups. We pay the entry
fees. WE earn the money to support the AKC.
The AKC has become a personal playground for a few who vote themselves huge
salaries, travel expences, and perks from the money earned thorugh
registrations and dog shows.   In this current economy when those of us
lucky enough to still be working or have a decent retirement and a roof over
our heads are rescuing thousands of PUREBRED dogs abandoned or surrendered to
shelters by owners who have no other choice, they are travelling on OUR money
to Crufts, CHina, and where else?  They are storing a multi million dollar
art gallery and library which noone can see. EVERYONE is cutting back to
survive and they vote in pay increases and golden umbrella pensions and spend
over TWO MILLION in travel in one year??? One person in a nonprofit funded
by the fancy making over half a million dollars a year?????
THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!!!

I bitch about the AKC as much as the next person. But, who do we think we are
to tell someone else how they run their business. I am always amazed when we
try to dictate to the AKC.
We don't have to register our dogs, enter the shows, pay the fees, or even
breed dogs that are AKC registered. There are other registries, other dog
shows, and other systems.
But, we chose to breed and register AKC animals. We chose to show at AKC shows,
and we chose to support the AKC. We don't have to, and they sure don't have
to listen to us as to how they run their business.
If the AKC is making a bad decision, with the fees for judges, for raising the
expenses for registration, requiring clubs to have more matches or anything
else, they will go out of business.
We have no right to tell them how to run their organization. Unlike the GSDCA,
where we are the club, we are not the AKC.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
