[ SHOWGSD-L ] Veteran Best of Breed/Pts, etc..

Hi Lee, et al.
This happened to me a few moons back. I was showing an old Sealyham under a
judge who liked him enough as a young dog to give him WD, BOW, and BOB a
major of Montgomery County winning specials dogs. As with Sealyhams, its
very hard to get points and after the owner's husband dying, we did a give
up.
When he was 8 years old, I got him back and stripped him out. For funsies I
wanted to throw him the veterans class to see if "wild bill" was still
"wild bill" under the judge who liked him as a young dog. Not only did we
win the BOB from Veterans class that day, we also won the Group. And I
thought that it FINALLY finished his championship because there was a 5
point major in Cairns that day...
NOPE! AKC wrote back and said since veterans is a NON REGULAR class, no
points are awarded. Even if he goes BOB and on to Group one. (This was
before the grand championship title, so I don't know how it works with that
and an unfinished veteran, but I suspect the same way).
The remedy? (According to AKC).. put him in the open dog class next time,
you would've won the BOB pts, and the Group I major and finished his
championship. But since it was a Non-regular class and he did not compete
in winners, No pts of any kind are awarded.
