I'll just add a scary note here. I have very few dogs of my breeding
out there, but if necessary, I would still try to get them back or try
for a good new home.... BUT.... you all need to be warned that there
HAVE been cases that AC has come in to houses with over-limit dogs,
seized ALL the dogs, found a piece of lint here and there, an empty
dog dish, some hair in the water, (O.k>, but not MUCH of an
exaggeration), took the owners to court and the court found them to be
abusive owners and ordered them to never own another dog. Think I'm
kidding and it could never happen??? If you read as many of these
cases as I do, you would know it DOES happen and not that infrequently.
So every time I was breaking that particular law, I had to understand
what a risk I could be taking. Just saying.....

I love your story and I'm glad you're sticking to it.....but I see it
differently and I will continue to do as I always have...when a dog
leaves my house my responsibility ends...I'll do what I can to help IF
POSSIBLE.....I don't carry the burdens and problems of other
people...got far too many of my own...Ed Hill

I have got to say that in my opinion anyone breeding a litter needs to
take responsibility for that litter. You owe it to the puppies as it
was your choice to bring them into this world. If you can't take them
back then you need to do everything you can to help them. I would
like to believe that we all do the best we can to find good homes and
I know that sometimes "stuff" happens but if you are not willing to
take responsibility for them don't breed your bitch.
We have a clause in our contract that states if for any reason they
cannot or will not keep the dog he or she is to be returned to us. It
is plain and simple - we brought them into this world and we feel an
obligation to make sure that they are treated properly and placed in a
good home. Before anyone mentions that there is a limit on the number
of dogs they are allowed to have let me say that we are only allowed
to have 3 but I am perfectly willing to break the law until I can find
a suitable place for any dog that I have bred.

To say you are responsible for the dogs in your home period is fine if
you are not bringing more of them into the world and selling them to
other people. If that's the way you feel then don't bring anymore
puppies into this world. The attitude of once they leave my home they
are on their own is simply a bad attitude and I hope the majority of
the people involved in dogs in general and our breed in particular
feel an obligation to the pups they breed.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Sincerely,
Gail J. Wells,
