I would love to sue any police
department that abandons their equiptment.

Want to sue mine for abandoning me?? They are doing a good job on that.? Our
canines are treated much better than the officers.? I donated one of my Labs to
the bomb unit.? He was with them for 2 years.? He washed out during DOD
training.? I was contacted and took him back.? But, if I hadn't taken him back,
the handler can keep the dog.? If the handler stays in that unit after a dog is
retired or washed out and gets another dog, then other officers can take in one
of the retired dogs.? I cannot recall?one incident in my 24 years on the job,
where one of our K9's has ended up in a pound.? It breaks my heart that any dog
that has served his community, police department and partner would?end up in a
pound.??
As Kathy said, these dogs are wonderful family members.? Many of them do double
duty in schools and after school programs with the kids.? They are incredibly
well trained to know a threat from a non-threat and respond to their training.?
The training is rigorous and these dogs must have a solid temperament.? It's
similar to the "Shoot-Don't shoot" training we get.?When these dogs come to the
station, after an incident, they hang out and are one of the guys.? Except if
they are left in the car.? Then, they love to scare the crap out of anyone
walking by.? They lay in wait for some unsuspecting subject.? As?he/she walks
by the car, up jumps the dog to bark.? I swear they are smiling when that
person jumps 10 feet into the air, LOL!???
