I have had several people tell me I am crazy for running and that nothing good will come of it.? I spent several weeks battling myself about whether I should or shouldn't run.? I do want what's best for our club and it's members and I do feel I can work toward that goal.? I think a Board member can only be a positive and progressive?Board member?if he/she has intentions of absolute selflessness.? That is just one issues I have with a couple of our Board members right now.? Jeff---- there is a lot more to being a Board member, then good thoughts and intentions. Most of the Board members that are on the present Board had& have these good thoughts,But you have to have experience and knowledge of what is proper, correct, and important to the club. When the rules were changed from 8 yrs on and 1 year off, to seven yrs on, and 2 yrs off, this really screwed things up, Continuity was lost Too many people went off at the same time. For instance this year both the President and Vice President are going off at the same time. Forget who holds these position--Normally a VP is able to step up to the plate ,when a President leaves ,and carry on by educating and assimilating a brand new bunch of Board members . I'm not sure, but I think this rule was changed under Ken Downing's watch( please correct me if I'm wrong.) From then on many new people who had no Board history were on the Board. New people are great, but not if they have no knowledge or experience . People came on who's sole experience was managing their local club. As I've said in previous "History" posts, all our earlier Presidents were Big business men CEO's and Presidents of Corporations They,as experienced leaders, taught us all through the years. Other than the Sands--Roberts deal.,we had a smooth functioning operation, essentially up through Dan Smiths. We are at a serious turning point. Our culture had changed, and we don't have the Big business leadership to draw from. anymore We don't have the Burr Robbins,Sam Lawrences,Bob Hamiltons who had the hobby of Dogs and gave their time and resources to the club. So we have to find leadership( and that includes the whole Board) from within our own resources,But people have got to learn management, and the rules and regulation. This is not something that with all good intentions--"you can fly by the seat of your pants" Helen Miller Fisher ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2007.
