I had a bitch who missed three times after having three litters. All the
tests/cultures done, the same as you.She also flagged and stood readily to
be bred. As a last resort, I did the surgical implants (done by a
reproduction specialist). She did not get pregnant and I spayed her.
Pathology reports indicated that there was something wrong with her uterus
but it has been so long that I don't remember exactly what the problem was
except that she would never have gotten pregnant. The expense of all these
missed pregnancies was horrendous not counting the false pregnancies she
endured. I wouldn't do it again.

Hi all
I have a question for the breeders on the list. I have a (now 6 yr old)
bitch, who has only ever produced 1 litter of 2 puppies at age 2. She has
definite qualities that I desperately want to carry on, including structure,
temperament, pigment etc., etc.
Now ....... the last three matings I have done with her, she has exhibited
ALL the signs of being pregnant. Ultrasounds at 5 weeks are always negative
(as they were with her 1st litter), blood test at 7 weeks come up positive
for pregnancy. This has happened again, except this time, we (vet and I)
did not just assume the blood test was correct and did another ultrasound as
well. Vet checked her thoroughly, and there are no puppies, dead or alive.
My vet, who is a re-production specialist, is completely stumped. He has
suggested that when she comes in again, I do surgical implants.
Each season I have had a swab done to rule out infection, and I have done
the progesterone testing, and done the matings according to those results.
She has always 'stood' for the dog, but doesn't do the 'flagging'. My
question, I guess, is two-fold. How reliable are the progesterone tests,
and what experience have you had with the surgical implants. I can't really
afford to do this, but will scrape up the money if it means I will get a
litter from this bitch. Her litter sisters have all had litters, average
between 6-12 puppies per litter.
Any suggestions/ideas will be gratefully accepted. I desperately want a
litter from this bitch!! I have started her on herbal hormone stabilisers,
hoping this will help.
