It's not the buyer's, it's the Vets.  While novices don't know what to ask or 
demand of their vets, the vets, who should know what tolook for, are many times 
baby vets or breed ignorant.  Sorry, that was a run on sentence.  I recently 
worked with one of my students, whose vet wanted to charge her thousands of $$ 
to run a battery of tests and and even surgery.  I recognized the symtoms and 
told her to have her vet do a TLI for EPI.  Guess what?  The dog has EPI.  
The owner started doing research on the vet and found out the initial vet (who 
recommended all the tests) was just out of vet school and not even certified to 
perform the surgery she recommended.  
Another case was a pup I sold about 4 years ago.  Vet told them she was 
dysplastic.  This girl is boxy and not extreme in the least.  Dysplastic?  
NOT!  I sent them to my vet and told them to get x-rays for OFA.  They did 
and she is OFA Good.  They switched vets.  

There are new HMO vets popping up everywhere.  The expertise and knowledge is 
questionable, at best.  When you sell a pup, recommend a vet.  If the dog is 
going far away, ask the List for a good vet to recommend.  Tell your puppy 
buyers that many vets are ignorant about our breed.  Ask them to contact you 
if their vet starts listing all the problems with their dog.  I think most of 
it is a money issue with those HMO vets.

We do tend to see our vets
 the way we see out doctors.  But, none of them are perfect.  That is why we 
get a second opinion.

This is an 8 month old male puppy. I should add that these same jerks 
ver-rotated his hips and told the owners he had severe dysplasia - no xrays 
aken. When they went back for films, his hips were perfect, so they came up 
ith this nonsense.
he owners are complete dog novices - first time dog owners in adult their adult 
ives, and they are in their 40s. Bought a perfectly normal, strong, healthy, 
ctive and happy 8-week-old puppy from a litter of 7 in May.
